I started Meg Mac Style to create homes that feel like the people who actually live there. Not like my house. Not like a showroom. And not like a photograph of a house where apparently nobody owns a phone charger.
I love interiors magazines and extraordinary homes. I just don't love the way they can make a perfectly normal life feel somehow less than.
If bags land at the front door every day, we'll give them somewhere to land. If everyone gravitates to one end of the kitchen when friends come over, I want to know why. That's design information.
A trend has to earn its place in your home. If it's beautiful, works for the way you live and will still make sense when the algorithm has moved on, I'm all for it. Sometimes that means moving the chair you already own and realising it was never the wrong chair. I like old things with new things, expensive things with ordinary things, and a little bit of oddness when a room needs it.
I have a particular weakness for beautiful things people have stopped seeing.
Before interiors, I spent years as an academic and educational researcher. More of it followed me here than you'd think. I listen. I ask a lot of questions. I notice things. I'm curious about people and how they live.
You don't need to know your design style before we start, or clear everything out first. And you definitely don't need to hand me your house and get mine back.
